SvcMgr: Create the service accounts

This procedure describes the steps for creating the service accounts required for installing System Center Service Manager 2010:

Name Type Function
SMService Domain User Service account for running Service Manager

Local Administrators

SMWorkflow Domain User Service account for running workflows
SMAdmins Domain Global Group Global Group with Service Manager administrators

Prerequisites

  • You have configured Active Directory for the TECHREADY.RO domain.

Installation and configuration steps

  1. Logon on the DC server using the domain Administrator account.
  2. From the Start menu, Administrative Tools, launch Active Directory Users and Computers.
  3. Select the container where you want to create the accounts, right click and select New, User.
  4. In the New Object – User window enter the name in the First Name and User Logon Name and click Next.
  5. In the New Object – User window enter a password and check User cannot change password and Password never expires options then click Next.
  6. In the New Object – User window review the information and click Finish.
  7. In the New Object – User window enter the name in the First Name and User Logon Name and click Next.
  8. In the New Object – User window enter a password and check User cannot change password and Password never expires options then click Next.
  9. In the New Object – User window review the information and click Finish.
  10. In the Active Directory Users and Computers console select the container where you want to create the group, right click and select New, Group.
  11. Create a new group. In the New Object – Group window enter a name and select Global and Security options then click OK.
  12. In the Active Directory Users and Computers console access the properties of the new group.
  13. In the Properties window select the Members tab and then click Add.
  14. In the Select Users, Contacts or Computers window enter the SMService account and click OK.
  15. In the Properties window select the Members tab and then click Add.
  16. In the Select Users, Contacts or Computers window enter the Administrator account and click OK.
  17. In the Properties window click OK.
  18. Logon on the SvcMgr server using the domain Administrator account.
  19. Launch the Server Manager Console, expand Configuration, Local Users and Groups, Groups and access the properties of Administrators local group.
  20. In the Administrators Properties window click Add.
  21. In the Select Users Computers or Groups window enter the name of the account to be used by Service Manager services (SMService) and click Check Names then click OK.
  22. In the Administrators Properties window click OK.
