Impressions from TechDays in the Cloud

This week was the TechDays in the Cloud event organized by Microsoft Romania. A very good event with solid presentations.

The keynote was delivered by Gabriel Nicolaescu from Microsoft Romania. He outlined the Microsoft vision and strategy for Cloud Computing, with a special focus on the Private Cloud. Gabi explained that not all virtualization infrastructures are “private clouds” and that the difference is made by management solutions.

Ciprian Jichici had a very good presentation in which he tried to answer a question that comes in the mind of every IT Professional: Will my job survive the cloud?

Then Tudy Damian, Sebastian Vijeu and myself had the session on How to build a Private Cloud with Hyper-V and System Center. Tudy explained the advantages of the Microsoft platform. Sebi had a great set of demos, including Failover Clustering, SCVMM 2008 R2, Self-Service Portal 2.0 and Dynamic Datacenter Toolkit (DDTK). Then I have explained how one can build the infrastructure presented in the demo.

Gheorghe Dobrea discussed the relationship between IT Service Management frameworks and Cloud Computing,  explaining that the frameworks still apply and are more relevant than ever.

Then Ionut Boldizsar discussed the security implications of cloud computing insisting on data classification and protection.

Serban Zirnovan from Dell Romania, who provided the hardware  for the demos, explained the Dell strategy and offerings for the cloud.

Overall a very good event. Sessions were recorded and will be available soon. Until then please see some pictures below.
