CfgMgr: Configure the prerequisites for Configuration Manager 2007 installation

This procedure describes the steps for configuring the operating system prerequisite components for the installation of Configuration Manager 2007.

Prerequisites

  • Active Directory and DNS server are installed and configured for the domain TECHREADY.RO.
  • Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard was installed on the server where Configuration Manager 2007 will be installed.

Installation and configuration steps

First we need to ensure that the TCP/IP settings are correct.

  1. Logon on the server using the local Administrator account.
  2. From Network Properties, open the TCP/IP settings and check the configuration.
  3. Right-click on Computer and select Properties.
  4. In the System window click Change settings.
  5. In the System Properties window at the Computer Name tab then click Change.
  6. Check the name of the computer is CfgMgr then in the Member of section select Domain enter the name of the domain then click OK
  7. The server will contact the Domain Controller. In the Computer Name/Domain Changes window enter the credentials of a user account that has the permission to add computers to the domain then click OK.
  8. In the Computer Name/Domain Changes window click OK.
  9. In the Computer Name/Domain Changes window click OK.
  10. In the System Properties window click Close.
  11. In the System Settings Change window click Restart Now.

Next we will install IIS, BITS, ASP and WebDAV. These components are required for installing Configuration Manager 2007 site systems (Management Point, Distribution Point and Reporting Point)

  1. After computer restarts, logon using the domain Administrator account.
  2. From the Start menu launch the Server Manager console. In the left pane select Roles and in the right pane click Add Roles.
  3. In the Before You Begin window click Next.
  4. In the Select Server Roles window check Web Server (IIS)
  5. In the Add features required for Web Server (IIS)? window click Add Required Features.
  6. In the Select Server Roles window click Next.
  7. In the Web Server (IIS) window click Next.
  8. In the Select Role Services window check WebDAV Publishing.
  9. In the Select Role Services window check ASP.NET.
  10. In the Add role services and features required for ASP.NET? window click Add Required Role Services.
  11. In the Select Role Services window check ASP.
  12. In the Select Role Services window check Windows Authentication.
  13. In the Select Role Services window check IIS 6 Metabase Compatibility and IIS 6 WMI Compatibility then click Next..
  14. In the Confirm Installation Selections window click Install.
  15. In the Installation Results window click Close.
  16. In the Server Manager console in the left pane select Features and in the right pane click Add Features.
  17. In the Select Features window check .NET Framework 3.5.1 Features
  18. In the Select Features window check BITS Server Extensions.
  19. In the Add role services required for BITS Server Extensions? window click Add required Role Services.
  20. In the Select Features window check Remote Differential Compression then click Next.
  21. In the Web Server (IIS) window click Next.
  22. In the Select Role Services window click Next.
  23. In the Confirm Installation Selections window click Install.
  24. In the Installation Results window click Close.

Next we will configure WebDAV extensions for IIS 7.5 to allow publishing by Configuration Manager 2007.

  1. From Administrative Tools launch Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager.
  2. In the left pane expand the server name, Sites and select Default Web Site. In the central pane open WebDAV Authoring Rules.
  3. In the right pane click Enable WebDAV.
  4. In the right pane click Add Authoring Rule.
  5. In the Add Authoring Rule window select All content, All users, Read then click OK.
  6. In the IIS Manager console in the right pane click WebDAV Settings.
  7. In the central pane for Allow anonymous properties select True.
  8. For Allow Custom Properties select False.
  9. For Allow property queries select True.
  10. For Allow hidden files select True. Then in the right pane click Apply.
  11. Close the IIS Manager console.
  12. From C:\Windows\System32\inetsrv\config open applicationHost.config file.
  13. At the <requestFiltering> section verify that alowUnlisted=”true”. The file extensions from the list are blocked if they are part of the packages on the Distribution Points.
  14. At the <handlers accessPolicy=”Read, Script”> section verify that a WebDAV entry exists.
