This procedure describes the steps for installing and configuring SQL Server 2008 x64 on the CfgMgr server.
Note: The installation described below was performed using a SQL Server 2008 RTM installation media, after which we have applied Service Pack
Prerequisites
- Active Directory and DNS server are installed and configured for the domain TECHREADY.RO.
- Windows Server 2008 R2 was installed on the server where SQL Server 2008 will be installed.
Installation and Configuration
- Logon on the server using the domain Administrator account
- Insert the SQL Server 2008 x64 installation media. In the Program Compatibility Assistant window click Run Program.
- SQL Server Installation Center will start. From the left pane select Installation.
- In the Installation section select New SQL Server stand-alone installation or add features to an existing installation.
- In the Program Compatibility Assistant window click Run Program.
- In the Setup Support Rules window verify that all rules were met then click OK.
- In the Product Key window select Enter the product key then click Next.
- In the License Terms window check I accept the license terms and click OK.
- In the Setup Support Files window click Install.
- In the Setup Support Rules window verify that there are no errors and click Next.
- In the Feature Selection window select Database Engine, Reporting Services and Management Tools then click Next.
- In the Instance Configuration window accept the Default instance and click Next.
- In the Disk Space Requirements window click Next.
- In the Server Configuration window under Account Name select NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM for all services then select the Collation tab.
- At the Collation tab accept the default collation settings and click Next.
- In the Database Engine Configuration window click Add Current User.
- In the Database Engine Configuration window click Next.
- In the Reporting Services Configuration window select Install the native mode default configuration and click Next.
- In the Error and Usage Reporting window click Next.
- In the Installation Rules window verify that all rules were met and click Next.
- In the Ready to Install window click Install.
- In the Installation Progress window wait for the installation to complete then click Next.
- In the Complete window click Close.
Next we will apply Service Pack 1 for SQL Server 2008 x64.
- From the folder where you downloaded Service Pack 1 for SQL Server 2008 x64 launch the executable. Note: If you encounter an error while launching, expand the archive and run the Setup program from the folder.
- In the Welcome window verify the prerequisites and click Next.
- In the License Terms window check I accept the license terms and click Next.
- In the Select Features window click Next.
- In the Check Files In Use window click Next.
- In the Ready to Update window click Update.
- In the Update Progress window wait for the operation to complete and click Next.
- In the Complete window click Close.
