SvcMgr: Install prerequisites for System Center Service Manager 2010

This procedure describes the steps for installing prerequisites for System Center Service Manager 2010.

Note: The procedure assumes that you have already installed Windows Server 2008 R2 on the server and you have configured the server with a static IP address.

Prerequisites

  • Windows Server 2008 R2 was installed on the server.
  • You have configured a static IP address according with the setup guide.

Installation and configuration steps

  1. Logon on the SvcMgr server using the local Administrator account.
  2. From Network Properties, open the TCP/IP settings and check the configuration.
  3. Right-click on Computer and select Properties.
  4. In the System window click Change settings.
  5. In the System Properties window at the Computer Name tab then click Change.
  6. Check the name of the computer then in the Member of section select Domain enter the name of the domain (TECHREADY) then click OK
  7. The server will contact the Domain Controller. In the Computer Name/Domain Changes window enter the credentials of a user account that has the permission to add computers to the domain then click OK.
  8. In the Computer Name/Domain Changes window click OK.
  9. In the Computer Name/Domain Changes window click OK.
  10. In the System Properties window click Close.
  11. In the System Settings Change window click Restart Now.

Next we will install IIS with ASP.NET and .NET Framework 3.5.1 These components are required for installing Service Manager and SQL Server Reporting Services.

  1. After computer restarts, logon using the domain Administrator account.
  2. From the Start menu launch the Server Manager console. In the left pane select Roles and in the right pane click Add Roles.
  3. In the Before You Begin window click Next.
  4. In the Select Server Roles window check Web Server (IIS).
  5. In the Add features required for Web Server (IIS)? window click Add Required Features.
  6. In the Select Server Roles window click Next.
  7. In the Web Server (IIS) window click Next.
  8. In the Select Role Services window check HTTP Redirection.
  9. In the Select Role Services window check ASP.NET.
  10. In the Add role services and features required for ASP.NET? window click Add Required Role Services.
  11. In the Select Role Services window check Windows Authentication then click Next.
  12. In the Confirm Installation Selections window click Install.
  13. In the Installation Results window click Close.
  14. In the Server Manager console in the left pane select Features and in the right pane click Add Features.
  15. In the Select Features window check .NET Framework 3.5.1 Features then click Next.
  16. In the Add role services required for .NET Framework 3.5.1 Features window click Add Required Features.
  17. In the Confirm Installation Selections window click Install.
  18. In the Installation Results window click Close.
  19. From the folder where you downloaded the Authorization Manager Hotfix (KB975332) launch the executable.
  20. In the Windows Update Standalone Installer window click Yes.
  21. In the Installation Complete window click Close.
